The northeast of Brazil, especially Ceará is considered one of the best places to practice kitesurf in the world. During 8 months a year(July to February)Ceará suffers the action of the trade winds coming from Africa responsible to maintain constant winds in the region, between 23 to 30 knots.
Because of this phenomenon the region of Jericoacoara became one of the best places to practice kite and windsurfing. It is possible to find spots with winds: "side on-shore", "side shore" and "side off-shore", and endless beaches (up to 15km) for the famous DOWNWINDS and locations for wave riding.
Best time of year is between July and February, pointing out that every beginning and end of the seasons the winds are not so constant. Wind average varies between 23 to 30 knots and can reach up to 35 knots during the gust. Waves period begin in November and goes until the end of March, but remember the waves in Jeri are not very big, may reach up to 1.5 m in a very good swell. Waves differ in size depending on tide, swell and time of year. During high tide is when you have the biggest waves. With a soft sandy bottom, these are friendly, gentle waves that are perfect for learning to ride.
