JERICOACOARA


 

If your destiny it is Ceará don´t leave without first being presented to Jericoacoara, affectionately called by the natives, residents and visitors as “JERI”. The village it is approximately 320 km from Fortaleza and it is located within the National Park of Jericoacoara. Your access is possible only by 4WD vehicles, because by being located within a national park there are no roads or streets that come directly to the village and the only access is by the beach or crossing the dunes of the park. Hence, it is the best to make the journey from Fortaleza, in comfortable air-conditioned 4WD car. The depart and arrival are made at the place and time desire by the client. The rout can be done by the road, approximately 4h30, or by the beach which takes the entire day. The scenario it is a dream: endless beaches, lagoons, sandbanks and dunes that can reach up to 30 meters high.

When you finally arrive in Jeri you will confirmed that it was not for nothing that the place with around 1.500 habitants, originally a fishing town, was include for the second time by the Official Washington Post´s list of 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.

Jericoacoara means in the Tremembes Indian language: The beach of “Aligattor sleeping under the sun” – is even beautiful. Americans and Europeans began to arrive in the region, attracted by the recent fame. With the increase tourism flow, won attention from the local authorities. In 1998, the electricity finally reaches the village and the old noisy diesel generators were abandoned. It seems the destiny of Jeri is to be the biggest attraction of Ceará. There are good restaurants, comfortable accommodations and structure schedule of buggy tours. The locals try to keep the same atmosphere that took the attention from the first visitors, preserving the nature, preventing the public lighting and maintaining the streets with sand. (There is no type of flooring in the village). While all this is maintained, Jericoacoara continue taking all this charm.

Beside all natural attractive and your beauty, Jeri is consider one of the best spot in the world for windsurf and kitesurf, mainly, because of the constant and strong wind that blow during the entire summer season in the northeast of Brazil (July to February). The wind average it is from 23 to 30 knots almost daily providing, to the lovers of the water sports, unforgettable days of sailing.
 

ATTRACTIONS

Kitesurf – there are several "spots" to practice kitesurf in Jeri providing ideal conditions from beginners to advanced, with winds ranging from "side offshore" to "side on shore" depending the location. For the adventurous there are the famous Kitesurfaris, travel through different locations and conditions around Ceará. Important know that the mainly beach in Jeri it is for windsurfing and practice both sports together can be dangerous in places with many athletes. 

Windsurf – for the windsurfing lovers Jericoacoara is a full dish. You can find condtions that goes from "flat water" to waves and winds ranging from 23 to 30 knots almost every day during the season. The best season for waves is between November and February, pointing out that in January and February the winds are no longer as strong and constant. 
Buggy Tour: there are several options for buggy tours. The most common and known are: tours to the Paradise and Blue lagoons and Tatajuba. There are also others alternative tours very goods and just a few people know as Barrinha and Pinguela Lagoon for example. Those tour goes from BRL 120 to BRL 180 per buggy and the capacity it is up to 4 people.
Sunset Dune - Jericoacoara is one of the few places in the world where the sun rises and gets on the beach. The Sunset Dune has about 30m high and is tradition every day visitors and residents going up the dune around 17:00 for the sunset. It is very common also practice sandbord at the same time.
Sandboad - the Sunset Dune is ideal to practice the sport, with about 30 meters high. There are other dunes in the National Park to practice the sport but their access is done in buggies because of the distance.

Horse Riding – it is very common in Jeri rent horses for a ride on the beach or go to different places as Pedra Furada or Mangue Seco. It is necessary a guide.
